Starlink Installation in Norfolk County

If you’re in Norfolk County and are considering Starlink for your home internet, you might find this page useful.

I was struggling with terrible service from our local provider, Eastlink.

I finally had enough and decided to test Starlink. Over the years, I had the Starlink tucked away in a closet and would occasionally test it. It could not beat Eastlink for speed in the first couple years (2022 – 2024).

In 2025 Starlink released the new Standard unit, a slimmer design with higher speed potential.

This new unit, combined with a slew of Eastlink connectivity issues led me to make the decision to fully switch to Starlink.

I had the ‘dish’ professionally installed on my roof, and had the wire fed into my house and into the new Starlink Gen3 router. Combined with the existing hardwire infrastructure of my home and office, I am now enjoying speeds of approx 400 mb/s down, and up to 50 mb/s upload. This is equivalent download speed to Eastlink, but 5x the upload.

For those unfamiliar with how to perceive internet speeds, once you are over 100 mb/s download, the bottleneck becomes the upload speed (aka how fast your device can send the ‘request’ to the internet). By 5x my upload speed, the internet feels 20x faster. Strange how that works, but that is the beauty of a professionally installed Starlink system in Norfolk County.
